Living in the Community Questionnaire and Living in the Community Questionnaire - Summary

About the LCQ and LCQ-S

The Training and Service Development component of AMHOCN was funded by the Australian Government Department of Health to develop a consumer self report measure that focuses on aspects of social inclusion and recovery - an area of focus under the Fourth National Mental Health Plan. The measure that has been developed is known as the Living in the Community Questionnaire (LCQ) and is designed to explore aspects of a consumer's life in the community including social activities, participation in employment or study, living situation and physical health care. The LCQ includes 33 questions. Read the Final Report on the development of the Living in the Community Questionnaire (LCQ).

The Fifth National Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Plan also identified improving social inclusion for mental health consumers as a key priority and included specific performance indicators on employment, housing, connectedness, meaning in life and social and community participation. The LCQ was identified as a measure that may be suitable for the reporting of Fifth Plan indicators. AMHOCN was tasked with creating a summary form of the LCQ (the LCQ-S) that was suitable for reporting indicators within the Fifth Plan but also could be used within services to support consumer - clinician dialogue and care planning. The LCQ-S has 15 questions. Read the Final Report on the development of the Living in the Community Questionnaire - Summary (LCQ-S).
