Resource Utilisation Group - Activities of Daily Living

The RUG-ADL is a measure applicable to people aged 65 years and over. Developed by Fries et al for the measurement of nursing dependency in nursing home facilities in the USA, the RUG-ADL measures ability with respect to what are called ‘late loss’ activities – those activities that are likely to be lost last in life (e.g. eating, mobility).  ‘Early loss’ activities (such as dressing and grooming) are included in the LSP.
